Michael Opsomer, DVM

Dr. Mike founded Gentle Care Animal Hospital in 1994 and built the current clinic location on West Aldersgate Drive in 2001. He recently retired and sold his practice in late 2016 to Dr Kelly and Dr Frank Whitchurch. He consistently strives to maintain the highest standards for patient care and compassion. Veterinary medicine was his passion and he took his role seriously. The staff at Gentle Care Animal Hospital is so thankful for the practice he built and the high standards he believes in and upheld for so many years.

Kelly Whitchurch, DVM

Dr Kelly joined Gentle Care in June 2009. She spent 5 years in mixed animal practice in Missouri before moving around a bit with her husband, Dr. Frank, for other job opportunities in California and Vermont. She now concentrates on small animal practice and is glad to be back in the state of Missouri. Her primary interests include puppy and kitten wellness and behavior, senior care, orthopedic issues (including knee surgery), pain management, and internal medicine. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her husband, 3 dogs, 3 cats, 2 horses, and the rest of the menagerie on the farm.

Frank Whitchurch, DVM

Dr Frank joined Gentle Care in January of 2012. He completed an internship in Equine medicine and surgery in California and spent a year in Vermont doctoring pleasure and performance horses. Dr. Frank then returned to the area to practice small and large animal medicine and surgery for 2 years. His interests include minor and major surgical procedures, dentistry and preventive medicine. Outside of work Dr. Frank is an avid cyclist and most especially enjoys time with friends and family.

dr ruth massey

Ruth Massey, DVM

Dr. Massey received her DVM degree from the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine. She did a residency at the University of Florida. She has worked in mixed practices, emergency medicine and owned an equine practice. For the last 15 years she has worked as a relief veterinarian in the Springfield, Mo. area. She lives with her 3 cats, BabaGnoush, CousCous and Neut and too many fox trotting horses.
